Kajokeji Young Women Association

Kajokeji Young Women Association (KYWA) is a group of 60 women, which  started in 2018 in Belameling Refugee Camp, Parolinya resettlements, Northern Uganda. The group has a common goal of starting small businesses to help themselves and  their families.

For the last three years, KCNA has been assisting the KYWA to establish tailoring, sanitary pads, liquid soap making, knitting, making  beads baskets, poultry and combo/traditional salt small businesses including marketing strategies.

Tailoring

Using materials available in North Uganda, they sew traditional skirts (Tanura) and other clothes such as dresses and school uniforms.

Liquid soap production

They produce liquid soap to go with the sanitary pads using baking soda, water and materials for perfumes, mixing with cooking spoon commonly known as mafraga.  They then fill the liquid soap in empty water bottles in 5000 ml and 1 liter containers.

They keep poultry as a source of protein for the community as well as source of income.

Kombo production

They use special plants species to produce  classic Kombo (traditional salt) for their use. But they also mail some to the western world for sale. Packing and measurements are all done in the western world.

Bead products

The women are creative with beads making hand bags, baskets, earrings and bracelets.

Women Center Renovation

Due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and social distancing guidelines, the women were restricted from meeting at their center to work. The restrictions are now lifted. But the office is damaged by wind and rain and the women dream of running successful business is in danger.

Your donations to rebuild/renovate the women center at Belameling will very much be appreciated.
